Offering wide-ranging and dedicated support, our Landkey nursery has provided childcare in the village since 1988 and is a well-respected part of the local community, where children are at the heart of all we do.
We offer places for babies, toddlers and pre-school children from three months to five years old, and you can choose from full- or part-time hours to suit your needs.
We also provide wraparound care for school children aged 5-11 years old, with breakfast club and after-school club and a walking bus to Landkey Primary School. We are open all year round so we also provide a holiday club during school holidays.
We have a warm and cosy dedicated baby room with lots of activities to encourage investigation and exploration as well as sensory resources that develop motor skills and build nerve connections in the brain. There’s also a separate sleeping area for afternoon (or morning) power naps!
Our large main room is bright and airy with lots of different spaces that link to the seven areas of learning within the EYFS (early years foundation stage). Here, children play to learn, and the adults work alongside them, encouraging and extending their learning with open-ended questions to promote language skills and critical thinking.
The messy room needs little explanation! In here, we draw, paint, create; we play with slime, playdough, sand and water; we make models out of recycled materials; we cut, stick, design and build…
There’s also a large outdoor area with a small climbing frame to encourage safe risk-taking, a pirate ship, a mud kitchen, a music wall, a water wall, a wheeled toy area, a decked area for shade, and a quiet sitting area.
Our small team of staff are well-trained, with qualifications including NNEB, BTEC, and CACHE to a minimum of NVQ Level 3. We have a dedicated childcare manager who works closely alongside the children and staff on the nursery floor, and we always aim to create great nursery-parent partnerships, to provide a caring, nurturing and encouraging environment for all.
At Ladybirds, our aim is for every child to be happy, healthy and enjoying their early years at the nursery – and for parents to have peace of mind that their children are in excellent hands.
All staff are trained in Paediatric First Aid, have Level 2 Safeguarding, LADO and Prevent Duty training. These disciplines are updated every year.
Team members, including managers, are continually developing their skills and have also completed a variety of non-vocational courses including first-aid, food hygiene, child protection, fire safety and a series of specialist child play and child communication development courses.
As we are registered with and regularly monitored by Ofsted, our levels of care and conduct, and our quality of provision, are in line with the nationally accepted standards. We closely follow the EYFS and track progress continually, which can be viewed via our parent app. For ongoing support and guidance to all our nurseries, we also work with the Devon Early Years and Childcare Services.
We’ve always considered engaging with parents in all aspects of their children’s development to be vital and our parent app can give parents total access to their child’s development as well as being able to add their own photos and comments of their child’s progress with activities at home. In addition, part of this dedication to a complete and inclusive service includes the offer of flexible attendance hours, Government-funded sessions and part-hourly charging.
